Good morning David! I have a lot I can learn from you! And speaking of your novella series, I snagged the first volume–just waiting for time to read it, or get through my backlog.

I like the idea of writing deeper character sketches. Particularly when research is required. For example, one of my main characters this time around is ex-Army, and I need to get a lot of details settled. Once settled, I need to make sure I got them noted in one location.

I love your logline idea! Thanks for sharing some of your insights!

Since I’m currently writing the seventh and final volume in a novella series, I see a lot of advantages to your serialization idea. Of course, as an indie, I don’t have to worry about pleasing an agent.

My series is an evolution of an earlier attempt at a novel, so I have had a basic idea of where the whole thing is going since day one. If I were writing something brand new, I might find I needed to do a bit of plotting, but that would be contrary to my nature. I do, however, firmly believe in character outlines-maybe even more detailed than yours. I also find that writing a log line as step #1 and putting it in the header of my WIP helps keep me on track.

I can relate to much of this! My agent requires outlines, so with my first novel, I supplied it after I’d written it. My latest project is a nonfiction proposal, which challenge my pantser heart. Experience has taught me the art of plantsing, thank goodness. LOL The hybrid path can be awesome.

So glad you’ve been growing and thriving, unsurprisingly. Thanks for sharing! We can all learn tons from one another.

Is the house in your background fuzzy or did my eyes just go crossed? I am so technically challenged that I’m still learning wordpress. Yikes! You make a great case for self-hosting though and I also tried to remove dates from my posts and couldn’t. That must be another self-hosting perk.
